As outspoken, young professional women in the legal marketing community, we're here to help you discover what marketing lawyers is all about. We strive to tell it like it is, and we're not afraid to shake things up. We want to be a part of honest and frank discussions. Open-minded and creative, we are looking at legal marketing in a new way. We're not about sugar-coating, just straight talk. We're real, transparent and are leading by example. Please join us in our discussions. Your input matters!
Collaborating
We met at a Legal Marketing Association Annual Conference. Our law firms are a part of the same alliance, and we planned to meet at the annual conference. Both in the early stages of our careers and extremely passionate, we became friends over the next few years. Rebecca is from New Orleans; Laura from the Twin Cities. We decided we had a lot to say on the subject of marketing - especially legal marketing.

I started my marketing career as a Marketing Assistant in Italy, where I thought the most unique challenge of my job was learning the language and effectively communicating our message. I knew that upon returning home to the States, I would no longer have to think about a language barrier as I continued my career.
I was wrong.
As anyone in professional services marketing knows, the message is everything. The language we use is so carefully dissected by not only our external clients but also, our internal clients. The people with whom we work every day. As a young professional and new mom, I'm always trying to be more efficient. How can I more quickly convey my message? I've found that blogs about the legal marketing industry are plentiful and extremely helpful. However, few address the questions and challenges that early career professionals may have. Yes, we have the knowledge and experience to contribute to effective strategy, but can our abbreviated (omg. brb.) modes of communication be changing the office dynamic? And how should our generation of professionals integrate into the more traditional office spaces? We'll use this blog not to tip-toe around the issues GenY-ers have at the office. We ask straight questions and I hope we encourage straight answers and an honest discussion among our readers.
More details about me: I love New Orleans (Nola, hereafter), Nola food, Nola parks, Nola music, Nola shopping (Magazine St.!). I also love crock pot cooking and discovering new recipes that can be made in 30 mintues or less (I love Rachel Ray. I don't care what anybody says.). But most importantly, I love networking and learning from other professional women who are committed to making our best attempt at having it all and doing it all. As research shows, women are taking over the world. The best thing we can do for our daughters is to figure out how to do it best.

(Yes, I have a Facebook account, but that's for my close friends. I'm also on Flickr, Tumblr & StumbleUpon. Message me if you'd like to connect there.)
Blogging ventures: I blog bi-monthly on my firm's IP blog about social media and brand marketing. In addition, I keep up two other blogs (one personal, the other creative writing), and am working on a third (typing up my grandmother's WWII diaries).
Writing/reading/editing: I swear I was a novelist in another life. My first "chapter" book was an Edgar Allen Poe anthology (no joke). I love writing short stories and observations. I'm a die-hard Stephen King fan (my senior thesis was on his usage of small towns in three of his novels). Literary theory is interesting to me. I read daily (which is why I started taking the bus to work). I'm such a nerd that I purchased library software to organize the over 400 books I own (no, I don't have an e-Reader). Editing is a hobby of mine - I love correcting mistakes on anything I read.
Other interests: Card-making. Traveling. Trying new restaurants. Pretending I'm a decent cook. Pretending I'm an amateur photographer. Being outside. Volleyball. Coffee. Wine. Dark beer. Fishing. Dancing.
I'm also actively involved with the Legal Marketing Association on a local and national level.
